US confirms Marine incursion

SOUTH ZAGORIA, Chernarus (AAN) – US Marines deployed to quell rebellion in Chernarus.

The United States has confirmed the deployment of the armed forces from the 27th Marine Expeditionary Unit inside Chernarus. A statement released by the US Defense Dept. claims the action, which took place in the early hours of this morning, was “justified, necessary and proportional…” and “at the official request of the Chernarussian government”. The Chernarussian government’s New Deal Party remains leaderless following the Assassination of PM Baranov. Reports from aid agencies and NGOs – currently denied entry at the South Zagoria border by the Chernarussian Defence Force – indicate the country is rapidly descending into anarchy as martial law fails to contain the surge of looting and civil disorder.

Details of the US invasion details are scarce for obvious reasons, but the USS Khe Sahn – a Wasp class Navy carrier, which arrived in the region this week – is reportedly home to some 2,000 Marines and Navy personnel. The Khe Sahn is also escorted by an undisclosed number of frigates and destroyers.

The region is traditionally thought to be within the so-called Russian ‘sphere of influence’. Earlier this week reports that the ChDKZ leadership sought talks with the Federation, which were allegedly refused, have since been denied by officials.
